Synopsis:

From a lifetime of institutionalization to international acclaim, Outsider: the Life and Art of Judith Scott is an intimate portrait of fiber artist Judith Scott. A woman with Down syndrome who is deaf and does not speak, Judith has emerged as an artist of considerable talent in spite of daunting odds.

Production Team:

Betsy Bayha, Director, Producer, currently works in the documentary unit at Lucasfilm Ltd. Her producing credits there include, Robert Graves and the White Goddess, and Ireland: The Power of the Poets. She was Senior Associate Producer of Freedom Machines which aired on PBS in 2004 and was nominated for a Peabody award. She was Associate Producer of the PBS documentaries Night Shift and The Workday that Wouldn't Die, which aired in 2002. Her writing credits include Serendipity , a six-part series for the Discovery Health Channel in 2003.

Yasha Aginsky, Editor, has worked as a film maker, editor and film educator for more than 20 years. He edited "Las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo" and "Forever Activists", both of which received Oscar nominations. He and his wife, Carrie, have worked on many films about social justice and peace. Most recently they produced, wrote and edited Wine from the Heart about a French wine making family.

Robert Elfstrom, Director of Photography, has been making award-winning films for over three decades. His work is regularly featured on PBS, National Geographic TV and the Discovery Channel and has received some of the country's most prestigious honors, including the Columbia-Dupont award.

Beth Custer, Composer, is also a performer, bandleader, clarinet teacher, and the proprietress of BC Records. Recent soundtrack work includes a season of the cartoon The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat for CBS/Film Roman, as well as many independent films, most notably those of Cathy Crane, Craig Baldwin, Esther Paik, Will Zavala, and Kwon & Iger.
